dovolte mi, abych využil příležitosti konání letošního ročníku brněnského mezinárodního veletrhu, který mám čest zahájit, k tomu, abych se trochu obecněji zamyslel nad naší současnou situací a abych znovu zformuloval hlavní priority hospodářské politiky vlády České republiky.

Die Verleihung Ihres Preises, die ich wirklich sehr hoch schätze, verstehe ich als wichtige persönliche Auszeichnung, aber gleichzeitig auch als Auszeichnung dessen, was die tschechische Regierung in den letzten Jahren für die Entwicklung des Mittelstandes und dadurch für den endgültigen Schluß des Kommunismus und seiner zentral geplanten, byrokratischen Wirtschaft und für den Sieg des Marktes und des privaten Unternehmens in der Tschechischen Republik getan hat.

Vážený pane děkane, páni profesoři, vážení hosté,

dovolte mi, abych hned na počátku řekl to, co cítím jako nejdůležitější. Udělení čestného doktorátu na vaší univerzitě považuji pro sebe za mimořádně velké ocenění. Považuji to za ocenění individuální, kterého si velmi vážím, ale považuji to i za ocenění pro zemi, kterou zde reprezentuji.

Being known as a passive and almost submissive person who always accepts somebody else’s suggestions, a few months ago I accepted the suggested title of my today’s speech: „The Common Crisis“. But several days ago when I started to seriously think about what to say, I modified the title slightly as compared to the printed version of the program of this congress, adding to it the question: „Is There Any?“.
