Dear Viktor, dear friend,

I followed with some fear the developments in Hungary and in Europe both before the elections, as well as the elections themselves. The results have proved that it is almost impossible to win the elections in a small European country against Brussels and the EU elites. For the fifth time, you have been trying to achieve the impossible. It didn’t work out this time. To my great regret.

Europe, and the situation of all of us, will be much worse after your election defeat. There is no comparable personality in Europe these days who would fight for freedom and democracy with such determination and conviction like you.

I am pleased to hear that you decided to go into opposition. When I was ousted from government in November 1997, my spontaneous reaction was: “We keep going”. And we did. I am optimistic something similar will be with you. An important part of Hungary and of Europe has been influenced by your ideas and your political stances. And it remains there.

I will be pleased to come to Budapest at any moment you suggest if I can be of any help. Don’t forget your friend in Prague.
