Former President of the Czech Republic Václav Klaus has been appointed President of the Climate Intelligence Group (Clintel).
Václav Klaus was informed of this decision by the outgoing President Guus Berkhout and by the Chairman of Clintel’s Executive Council, Wim Röst, in an official letter dated 16 October 2025. In their signed letter, they praised Václav Klaus for his “unwavering commitment to freedom, rationality, and scientific integrity,” and stated that “Václav Klaus’s influential voice in the international debate on climate policy will make him the most prominent figure within the Clintel Group.”
Climate Intelligence (Clintel) is an independent foundation that provides rational and objective information to the public about climate change and climate-change policies. Operating worldwide, it brings together thousands of scientists -including several Nobel Prize laureates - experts, and policymakers who approach the issue of climate change on the basis of objective, rational, and scientifically grounded information. Clintel analyzes the impacts of climate policy on society, the economy, and the environment. Its key document, among whose first signatories Václav Klaus was included, is the World Climate Declaration.
In the presence of representatives of Clintel’s national branches from around the world and invited journalists, Václav Klaus was appointed and inaugurated as President of Clintel at the Press Club Brussels Europe in Brussels on 4 December 2025.
In his address to the media in Brussels, Václav Klaus not only acknowledged the significant contribution of Clintel’s founder Guus Berkhout, but also reminded the audience that “I am fully aware that we [critics of the global-warming doctrine] are not on the winning side, and we should admit that.” “We should,” he emphasized, “help overcome the feelings of isolation experienced by our friends and supporters, as not everyone is sufficiently resilient or confident to defend their views.” It is also for this reason that Václav Klaus intends, in his new role, “to expand Clintel’s activities both within individual countries and at the international level.” He plans “to seek new supporters.” He does “not intend to centralize Clintel’s activities but rather to grant independence to national groups and initiatives.”
Václav Klaus will replace Guus Berkhout as President of the Clintel Foundation with effect from 1 December 2025. The organization’s Secretariat will remain in the Netherlands, where Clintel's activities originated. Václav Klaus looks forward to working not only with Clintel’s national representatives, but also with the current Executive Director, Marcel Crok, who will continue in his position.
