Květnové vydání měsíčníku Newsletter Institutu Václava Klause přináší text výkonného ředitele IVK Jiřího Weigla k 130. výročí narození Edvarda Beneše. Bývalý prezident Václav Klaus přispívá zápisem z pátých rozmluv na Hanspaulce, kde se diskutovala problematika míry indoktrinace našich dětí v dnešních školách. Nechybí ani tradiční anketa IVK, v níž na otázku „Co hodláte dělat proti uzákonění adopcí osobami stejného pohlaví?“

Sie galten als Präsident als Kritiker der Europäischen Integration und sprachen oft von „Überregulierung“ durch die Gemeinschaft: Wollen Sie wieder mehr Nationalstaaten?

Ich spreche nicht nur über die Überregulierung in der EU, ich kritisiere das ganze Konzept, das ganze Schema der heutigen europäischen Integration. Das ist etwas anderes. Zu der zweiten Hälfte Ihrer Frage, ja, ich will mehr von Staaten, weniger von Brüssel, mehr von heute existierenden europäischen Staaten wie Italien, Spanien oder die Tschechische Republik. Das Wort „Nationalstaaten“ ist unnötig und irreführend.

Vielen Dank für die Einladung und für die Gelegenheit wieder einmal in Ihrer schönen Stadt sein zu dürfen. Vor drei Jahren war ich hier in Brixen das erste Mal und ich erinnere mich sehr gut daran.

Damals habe ich hier eine Rede mit ein bisschen provokativem Titel gehalten „Europa hat eine Zukunft – aber eine nicht allzu rosige“. Der Fakt, dass Sie mich trotzdem wieder eingeladen haben, nehme ich als ein positives Zeichen. Es zeigt, oder vielleicht verspricht, dass meine damalige Rede keine Tragödie gewesen ist.

Evropská unie se postavila za americkou linii v dramatu ukrajinské krize. Dalo by se říct, že pokud by záležitosti probíhaly tak, jak sugerují západní vlády, a pokud by v nich šlo o ruskou agresi vůči Ukrajině za pomocí proruských teroristů na jihovýchodě země, kteří v zájmu Moskvy provádějí státoprávní puč proti legitimní centrální vládě v Kyjevě, pak by se dalo hovořit o politickém i mravním imperativu. Jenže věci se podle všeho mají poněkud jinak: naznačuje tomu mnohé.

In der Ukraine sind teilweise bürgerkriegsähnliche Zustände mit etlichen Todesopfern zu beklagen. Welche weitere Wendung wird der Konflikt Ihrer Einschätzung nach nehmen?

Über Szenarien kann man nur sprechen, wenn man zuvor die Ursachen analysiert hat. Und diesbezüglich bin ich enttäuscht über die inakzeptable Trivialisierung der Debatte in Europa. Ich sehe die Ursache der gegenwärtigen Krise nicht in einer authentischen Revolution. Die Ukraine wurde von aussen angestachelt.

Pozvání spřáteleného think-tanku The Danube Foundation přednést projev o našich pocitech z 10 let v EU (anglický text je na www.klaus.cz) a dvoudenní mezinárodní konference Transition in Perspective (mé krátké úvodní poznámky, malá část mého širšího textu, který bude až na podzim knižně publikován v USA, jsou také na mém webu) mne po roce a půl od mé „rozlučkové“ prezidentské návštěvy přivedly opět do Budapešti. Tehdy sněžilo, teď byly krásné jarní dny a Budapešť se předváděla v celé své kráse.

I was extremely touched getting the information about the death of Gary. I know it is a great loss for you, I know how close you were. I will never forget seeing it while staying in your house. It is a great loss for the economic profession, for the University of Chicago, for his friends all over the world, including Prague and the whole Czech Republic.

Many thanks for organizing this gathering. We – who came to Budapest and prepared our contributions to this important and much needed project – are personally motivated in preserving a correct understanding of the unique and unrepeatable era after the fall of communism. We are already one generation away from it. To our great regret, the permanently ongoing political disputes in our countries are very often based on a caricature of this historic era.

Many thanks for the invitation. I almost don’t remember when I spoke here, in Budapest, last time in a private capacity, not being on a formal state visit.

It may be partly a personal problem because I entered politics in the moment of the Czechoslovak-Hungarian dispute about Gabčíkovo-Nagyamaros Danube dam project and I dared interpreting it as one of the conflicts between green ideology and rational thinking which was not very popular in Hungary at that time.
