Thank you for giving me a chance to speak here this morning. I accepted the invitation to take part in this introductory panel even though I am rather reluctant to discuss global, cosmic, universal – more or less undefined or indefinable – topics, as it usually is a way of escaping the real issues we see around us and can, at least potentially, do something about.

Děkuji, že jste mi dali šanci, abych zde – před tak váženým publikem – promluvil. Přijal jsem pozvání, abych se účastnil úvodního panelu Vaší konference, ačkoliv se zpravidla zdráhám diskutovat o globálních, kosmických, universálních – více či méně nedefinovaných či nedefinovatelných – tématech, protože to obvykle bývá únik od reálných věcí, které nás obklopují a od věcí, se kterými můžeme alespoň potenciálně něco udělat.

I must say that I have a problem with the American understanding of the European integration. What I usually find here is the unstructured and unanalytical pro-integrationist argumentation by politicians and influential commentators which bothers me. It is not in my interests, and – I suppose – it is not in the interest of this country either.
