We Call on the Government of the Czech Republic: Do Not Take Part in Attempts to Undermine the Chance for Peace Represented by the Upcoming Russia–U.S. Summit in Alaska

The announced meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, to be held on August 15, 2025 in Alaska to explore ways to halt the fighting and achieve peace to Ukraine, represents — for the whole world, for Europe, and above all for Ukraine — the first genuine hope in a long time to end the tragedy of war and an attempt to resolve the conflict through negotiations. For the first time, the key great powers whose rivalry has triggered this war appear ready to seek a compromise. This meeting is awaited around the world with hope and expectation.

We are deeply concerned and therefore strongly reject the efforts of certain European powers and of the European Union to paralyze this Russia–U.S. meeting, block an end to the fighting, and prolong the war at all costs. EU High Representative Kaja Kallas has called a meeting of foreign ministers for Monday, August 11, with the aim of preventing a compromise, blocking an end to the fighting, and ensuring the continuation of the war. This must not be allowed to happen!

We therefore call on Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský, and the entire Czech government to refuse to take part in these anti-peace initiatives within the EU and, on the contrary, to support the efforts of our main ally, the United States, to achieve peace. This is the foremost and a key national interest of the Czech Republic.
