The Václav Klaus Institute Statement on Donald Trump´s Victory

English Pages, 9. 11. 2016

We welcome the result of the U.S. Presidential elections with great joy. We are convinced it is a good result for America, Europe, the West as well as the Czech Republic. It is a good result for the whole world. We dare say that we are also among the winners and we are proud of it.

The U.S. Presidential elections were won by ordinary people using common sense. They defeated the political elites and the political establishment, they defeated arrogant mediocracy as well as the most influential and powerful interest groups.

Donald Trump's victory is a merciless reckoning with President Obama and his policies. President Obama is the defeated president in these elections. The same way there would be no victory for Ronald Reagan without the presidency of James Carter, there would be no victory for Donald Trump without the presidency of Barack Obama.

Defeated in these elections was the world of political correctness, the world of hypocrisy, the world of elitist social engineering, the world that has become reconciled with the gradual decay of the West, giving up its traditional values.

A number of people in this country are also among those who were defeated. We can see their tragic-looking faces on TV talkshows today. The dominant political orientation both here and elsewhere in the last twenty five years was defeated.

We hope yesterday´s event will have a follow up. After the revolutionary success of brexit and the no less revolutionary victory of Donald Trump, we believe in a chain reaction in other European countries. Europe needed these two impulses. Let us do everything we can to make it happen.
