Soustrastný dopis prezidenta republiky Václava Klause paní Rose D. Friedmanové

Dokumenty, 20. 11. 2006

Dear Rose,

It was with deep sadness that I learned the unexpected and unexpectable news about Milton’s death. I hope you know how much I admired him, how much I learned from him.

He was and will always be considered one of the most distinguished economists whose thoughts and words about freedom and free market influenced and will continue to influence whole generations of people around the globe.

He was, however, not only a distinguished scientist. He was an extraordinary and remarkable person of great integrity and character and I feel privileged that I had the opportunity to get to know him personally, that I could meet him on many different occasions – some formal and some less formal, each being enriching and unique for me. It was my honor to read out a laudation when he received his honorary doctorate in the Prague University of Economics in 1997. It was my pleasure to share a ski lift with him in the Canadian Whistler Mountains or a game of tennis in Vancouver, etc.

We will all miss him very much but I know that you will miss him like nobody else. Let me express my deepest sympathies to you and the whole family.

Sincerely,

Václav Klaus, Prague, November 20th, 2006
